How to Install a Citrix License on a Citrix License Server

This article describes how to install a Citrix license on a Citrix license server.

Requirements

• A valid user name on the MyCitrix Web site belonging to the company the license is registered to

• Access to the MyCitrix license server and permissions to open the License Management Console

Background

Citrix licenses are issued for a particular Citrix license server, which must be entered into the license prior to the download. The license cannot be edited later to contain a different server name. To enter a new Citrix license server name, the license must be returned on the MyCitrix Web site and rehosted again. Once a Citrix license is hosted correctly, it can be downloaded into a file and installed on the Citrix license server.

Procedure

1. Log on at the MyCitrix Web site.

2. Open the Activation System / Manage Licenses toolbox.

3. Select the Download Licenses tab.

4. Select the check boxes corresponding to the licenses you wish to download.

5. Select any Subscription Advantage Renewal option associated with the selected licenses.

Note: The licenses and Subscription Advantage Renewals may be listed on several pages.

6. Click the Download button.

7. Save the file to the \Program Files\Citrix\Licensing directory. On your Citrix license server, browse to the \Program Files\Citrix\Licensing\MyFiles directory.

8. Move all the *.lic files except for citrix_startup.lic to a safe location.

9. Start the License Management Console on your Citrix license server.

10. Click Configure License Server.

11. Click Copy license file to this license server.

12. Browse to the location where you stored the new license file (steps 1 and 2 in the screen shot below).

13. Upload the license file to the default location (step 3 in the screen shot below).

14. Stop and start (rather than restart) the CitrixLicensing service.

Note: There are two more services that are not directly related and do not need to be restarted: The Citrix Licensing WMI service and the Citrix License Management Console service.
