Summary

This article describes how to use IP-based ownership rules to reduce the amount of group-mode forwarding when WANScaler appliances are operating in group mode.

Background

For background information on group mode, refer to CTX114489 – Group Mode - Traffic Flow Analysis.

IP-based ownership rules

In group mode operation, appliances take ownership of connections and forward traffic to the owning appliance when they encounter packets that are not assigned to them.

Using explicit IP-based rules can reduce the amount of group-mode forwarding. This is especially useful in primary link/backup link scenarios, where each link has a preferred range of IP addresses, but can act as a backup when the other link is down.
