Where to Find Additional Documentation

You can find more information about Presentation Server 4.0 in the Presentation Server Administrator's Guide. Documentation, including the Administrator's Guide, is in the Document Center located in the \documentation\docs directory on the Citrix Presentation Server CD. The Document Center provides a single point of access to the documentation and enables you to go directly to the section in the documentation that you need. You can access the Document Center from the product CD or install it on your servers.

If you prefer to access the guide without using the Document Center, navigate to the component PDF files using Windows Explorer. The guide is in an Adobe Portable Document (PDF) format file. To view, search, and print the documentation, you need Adobe Reader 5.0.5 or later with Search. You can download Adobe Reader for free from the Adobe Web site at http://www.adobe.com/.

All product documentation is also available from the Citrix Web site at http://www.citrix.com/support.

Important Note(s) about this Hotfix Rollup Pack

  1. Caution: Do not install this hotfix rollup pack on 64-bit Windows. Although Citrix uses the same code base in the development of both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Presentation Server, the binaries and files differ. Installing this hotfix rollup pack on 64-bit Windows is not supported and can yield unpredictable results.

  2. Caution! Several items in this hotfix rollup pack require you to edit the registry. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

  3. Installing this hotfix rollup pack partially invalidates the following hotfixes. This happens because not all fixes in these hotfixes are included in the hotfix rollup pack. Obtain or request the corresponding replacement hotfixes for any invalidated fixes you require as follows:

Application Isolation

  1. Server CPU utilization might grow heavily. The issue occurs when running applications that call GetModuleFileName repeatedly from an application isolation environment. Such applications include SQL Navigator and many VB applications.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#157222]

Client Device Issues

N/A

Content Redirection

  1. Launching HTML (.htm; .html) files embedded in Microsoft Word documents (.doc) fails. The following error message appears instead:

    Error Microsoft Internet Explorer
    Cannot find file:///C:documents......html
Make sure the path or internet address is correct

To enable this fix, you must set the following registry key(s):

    • On 32-bit Windows:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\SFTA\Runtime
      Name: IExploreExitDelay
      Type: REG_DWORD
      Data: <delay, in ms, before iexplore.exe exits>

    • On 64-bit Windows:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\SFTA\Runtime
      Name: IExploreExitDelay
      Type: REG_DWORD
      Data: <delay, in ms, before iexplore.exe exits>

For more information, see Knowledge Center article CTX112836.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#158354]

Data Store

  1. This enhancement allows administrators to find and remove orphaned records from the data store using the dscheck /full servers flag.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#162115]

  2. The way the SQL Server driver handles SQL Error 40001 (transaction rolled back due to deadlock) might lead to data store corruption.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#168867]

  3. Stored procedures might not return proper error codes.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#168868]

IMA Service

  1. After applying this fix, additional information is provided when you run a CDF trace on IMA_Subsystems_UserWin.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#158364]

  2. Applications might become unavailable after a zone data collector election is called if any server involved in the election process times out. After applying this fix, you can configure a new option, ElectionRetryTimeout, which defines the length of time, in milliseconds, a member server waits for acknowledgements from others servers to continue or restart the zone data collector election. If this timeout expires, the server calling the election will restart the election process by sending an election request to the most preferred server.

To enable this fix, set the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\IMA\Runtime\
    Value: ElectionRetryTimeout
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Value: Decimal number in milliseconds

If the above value is not configured this timeout continues to default to twice the election timeout [(the election timeout defaults to 10 seconds) + ((n-1) * 50ms)] where n is the number of servers the member server sent the election request to. For example, if a member server sends an election request to 3 servers, with the first 2 servers not responding and the third server responding, the election process would restart if the member server is not informed of which server is the new/existing Zone Data Collector after 20.200 seconds (2 * 10.100).

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#158997]

  3. The IMA Service might not start in environments where more than 1,024 file type association entries are listed within the registry. To enable this fix, you must set the following registry key(s):

    • On 32-bit Windows:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\IMA\Runtime
      Name: psrequired
      Type: REG_DWORD
      Data: 1

    • On 64-bit Windows:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\IMA\Runtime
      Name: psrequired
      Type: REG_DWORD
      Data: 1

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#159315]

Installation Manager

  1. Installation Manager might fail to uninstall certain packages and the following error message appears in the properties of the failed uninstall:

"Error Code 0x7. An install, repair or remove operation is in progress for this product."

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#162517]

Installing, Uninstalling, Upgrading

  1. After upgrading a zone data collector to the latest version of Presentation Server, the Presentation Server Console is slow to enumerate servers and Installation Manager packages.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#128456]

Load Balancing

  1. When reading user profiles takes a long time, per-server client session limits might not be honored. To enable this fix, you must set the following registry key:

    • On 32-bit Windows:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\IMA\MfServer
      Name: ResolutionEntryAge
      Type: REG_DWORD
Data: <maximum time for logon process of client session, expressed as (number of minutes x 2) +1. For example, to set the maximum time to 15 minutes, use a value of 31>

    • On 64-bit Windows:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\IMA\MfServer
      Name: ResolutionEntryAge
      Type: REG_DWORD
Data: <maximum time for logon process of client session, expressed as (number of minutes x 2) +1. For example, to set the maximum time to 15 minutes, use a value of 31>

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#162917]

  2. When using a Netscaler device or Access Gateway, Enterprise Edition, to load balance XML brokers, the following error message might appear:

"A network error caused your request to time out. Try to connect again. If you continue to receive this message, contact your Citrix administrator."

The issue occurs because the XML Service does not respond to requests routed through a network device that adds a HTTP request header that begins with the letters 'c' or 'k.'

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#166906]

Logon/Authentication

  1. The "Running logon scripts" logon status window might not close after the logon completes.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#157025]

  2. If the Presentation Server Client's automatic logon credentials contain a domain name not contained in the server's trusted relationships, the logon is still attempted on the server and may succeed if the credentials happen to be valid for a local account on the server.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#158647]

Printing

  1. This feature enhancement to the dscheck utility allows you to remove duplicate entries from the printer driver compatibility list. To purge the list of duplicate entries, run "DSCHECK /full printers /purge_driversecurity"

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#152884]

  2. Autocreated printers that no longer have an associated session are not deleted when the Citrix Print Service (CPSVC) restarts.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#160983]

  3. When reconnecting to a session from a client that uses a different default printer, the printer ToolTip displays the previous client's default printer.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#166586]

  4. Printers using the Universal Print Driver might be offline when reconnecting to a disconnected session.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#167462]

  5. Printers might go offline at random.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#168276, #168279, #168280]

Resource Manager

N/A

SDK

  1. The WinStationQueryInformation API might return an incorrect user name or an incorrect domain name after reconnecting to a session.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#148418]

  2. The policy method TWAINRedirectionRule is missing from the policy interface of Version 4.0 of the MFCOM SDK even though it is documented as present. This fix adds the definition of the policy method.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#161687]

  3. Queries for active sessions for a published application return a Permission Denied error rather than an empty list of sessions if the application is not currently running in any session.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#162795]

Seamless Windows

N/A

Security Issues

  1. This fix addresses a security vulnerability. For more information, see Knowledge Center article CTX114893.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#165816]

Server/Farm Administration

  1. Zone-to-zone communications spanning high latency networks for large farm environments are slow to synchronize the information retained in the dynamic store on each data collector to each data collector.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#151102]

  2. After running a discovery, the Access Management Console does not properly enumerate applications and application folders if duplicate application folders exist in the data store. This fix updates the dscheck utility to produce warnings about duplicate entries. To correct the issue, run the utility and remove any duplicate entries it returns from the data store.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#156720]

  3. Users with permission to terminate processes cannot terminate processes by invoking the "Terminate Process" function from the Servers folder or subfolders in the Presentation Server Console.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#160501]

  4. When running WMI queries, the WMI provider might encounter problems such as an unlicensed server or a timed out query, causing the query to fail and return an error message.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#160265]

  5. This fix introduces an enhancement to the DSCHECK utility to correct object memberships with the /folders option.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#161221]

  6. The DSCHECK utility does not detect domain trust information missing in the data store. With this fix, the following error message appears when running the utility if there is no trust information for a server in the data store:

"Server Consistency Check: The MetaFrame Server record with HostName <SERVERNAME> at DN<XXXXXXXX> is invalid. The associated Account Authority Server record was not found."

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#163254]

Session/Connection

  1. IPX connection attempts fail to servers where Fix #159382 is installed.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#167590]

Shadowing

N/A

Smart Cards

System Exceptions

  1. Session reliability checking might cause errors, leading the Citrix XTE Service to terminate unexpectedly.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#151599]

  2. Event ID 1114 appears sporadically in the Event Log, indicating issues with session printers even though no such issues are apparent. The entries occur when users terminate logons or sessions before the creation of their network printers is complete.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#164508]

  3. Sessions might become increasingly slow and eventually unresponsive. The issue occurs when the following combination of server and client settings exists:

    Server:
Presentation Server Console > ICA Settings farm property > ICA Display section >"Discard Redundant Graphics Operations" set to "OFF"

    Client:
ICA connection properties > Options > "Use Disk Cache for Bitmaps" enabled

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#165595]

  4. With SpeedScreen Browser Acceleration enabled, Microsoft Internet Explorer might exit unexpectedly when displaying GIF images.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#167267]

  5. On systems running Windows Server 2003, Service Pack 1 or later, the memory consumption of the Termsrv.exe process grows by about 1K each time you reconnect to a disconnected session.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#168014]

Virtual IP

N/A

Web Interface

  1. A "User Trust Intersection Change" error message might appear when using the management console to configure an application published to a user or a group that belongs to a domain that is not present in the trust list held in the data store for one or more servers where the application is published. If a server has a problem querying domain trust information, existing domain trust information for that server is removed from the data store.

With this fix, existing domain trust information is not removed from the data store if a server has a problem querying its domain trust information. Additionally, the following event will be generated in the server's application log:

    Type: Error
    Source: Metaframe Events
    Event ID: 1230
Description: Failed to get domain trust information for this server.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#163540]

Miscellaneous

  1. The "Turn off menu animations" policy does not work as designed. This fix removes the policy interface from the console.

    [From PSE400W2K3R04][#147057]

Fixes from Hotfixes Released and Replaced since Hotfix Rollup Pack 3

The following fixes were included in hotfixes released since Hotfix Rollup Pack 3. All those hotfixes are replaced by Hotfix Rollup Pack 4. :

  1. After applying Hotfix Rollup Pack 3, connection attempts might fail to complete and to launch the session. This happens with clients that use Version 1 of the Thinwire component. By default, Versions 6.00.985 and later of the Presentation Server Client for Windows use Version 2 of the Thinwire component. Other clients that might still be using Version 1 of the Thinwire component include the following: Nokia 92x0 V. 2.01; DOS32 V. 4.21; DOS16 V. 4.0; Solaris X86 V. 3.x; Compaq Tru64 V. 3.x; Sun SunOS 4.14 V. 3.x; SCO UnixWare V. 3.x; Linux ARM V 3.x; EPOC 5.x V. 3.x: Symbian - P800/P900; some versions of WinCE and Linux based Terminals.

    [From PSE400R03W2K3001][#159983]

  2. An application launched from a session on client device A might not become aware of a different default printer after connecting to the same session from client device B. For example, the tool tip for the printer icon on the Microsoft Word toolbar does not display the device B default printer after connecting to the same session from device B.

    [From PSE400R03W2K3002][#155652]

  3. When printing using the universal printer, the default output settings such as paper size and orientation are fixed. This fix offers a workaround by allowing administrators to set default values for the universal printer. To do this, set the following registry keys as needed:

    • On 32-bit Windows:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\Print\UPDDevmode
      Name: see chart
      Type: see chart
      Data: see chart

    • On 64-bit Windows:

  4. Some documents created with the data type set to RAW do not print using the universal driver.

    [From PSE400R03W2K3002][#157899]

  5. Under certain environmental conditions, a VC++ runtime exception error dialog box appears on the console of a Presentation Server.

    [From PSE400R03W2K3003][#158236]

  6. Microsoft Office Seamless Taskbar Support for Excel may fail after installing certain 3rd party Excel add-ins, such as the Excel Bloomberg add-in. For more information, see Knowledge Center article CTX101644.

    [From PSE400R03W2K3004][#158788]

  7. When running the ICA Toolbar as a seamless or fixed window published application and attempting to set the AutoHide toolbar property, the following error message appears:

"There is already an auto hidden window on this edge. Only one auto hidden window is allowed on each edge."

This fix removes the AutoHide toolbar property when the toolbar is not running in a full desktop session.

    [From PSE400R03W2K3005][#158239]

  8. When minimizing an Internet Explorer window using the Minimize button on the title bar, the Language bar, if present, is not minimized.

    [From PSE400R03W2K3006][#153509]

  9. Sessions might disconnect unexpectedly during shadowing or when connecting to a server using non-Windows clients.

    [From PSE400R03W2K3007][#156351]

  10. Servers might experience a fatal error on CDM.SYS with stop code 7f.

    [From PSE400R03W2K3007][#160873]

  11. Idle seamless sessions might not disconnect at the specified timeout interval.

  29. This is the server-side component of a fix that addresses an issue in multiple monitor environments where child dialog boxes are not positioned properly, appearing across monitors instead. It also introduces an enhancement that allows you to launch applications on dedicated monitors.

To enable the fix, you must:

    • Deploy the corresponding client-side Fix #157950

    • Set the following registry key on all servers to which you want to extend this functionality:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\CtxHook\AppInit_Dlls\Multiple Monitor Hook
    Name: DefaultHooks
    Type: REG_DWORD
Flag 0x1: Maximize window to correct monitor
Flag 0x400: Center child dialog boxes
Flag 0x800: Launch applications on a specified monitor
    Flag 0x0: Disables this functionality

To specify a monitor for application launching:

Set the flag above to 0x800 and then set the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\CtxHook\AppInit_Dlls\Multiple Monitor Hook
    Name: DefaultLaunchMonitor
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Data:

0: launch application on primary monitor
1: launch application on secondary monitor
    ...and so on.

To set hooks for specific applications:

Add a (REG_DWORD) with the application executable name as the name. For example, to set specific hooks for Notepad, add the following registry value:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\CtxHook\AppInit_Dlls\Multiple Monitor Hook
    Name: [Notepad.exe]
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Data:

0: launch application on primary monitor
