Summary

This article describes how to move the EdgeSight database to a new or different SQL Server system. Also included are the procedural steps for reinstalling or moving the EdgeSight server.

Requirements

• An account with administrative privileges to the old SQL Server system, the new SQL Server system and the EdgeSight Web server system

• The actual SQL sa account or a SQL account with sa privileges to both SQL Server systems (new and old)

Procedure for Moving the EdgeSight Database

1. On the EdgeSight Web server system, perform the following steps to shut down critical EdgeSight processes:

a. In the Control Panel's Services interface, locate and stop the RSSH Admin Service.

b. Using the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager tool, stop the EdgeSight Web site.

2. On the current SQL Server system, backup the existing EdgeSight database. This can be done using the SQL Enterprise Manager (SQL Server 2000) or the SQL Server Management Studio (SQL Server 2005). Please see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187048.aspx">Backing Up and Restoring Databases in SQL Server for additional information.

3. On the new SQL Server system, create a new database called EdgeSight. Using the tools in step 2, restore the .bak file to the newly created EdgeSight database.

4. Create the SpectUser SQL logon account within the new SQL Server system. Again, use the tools mentioned in Step 2 to accomplish this. Give this account full dbo rights to the EdgeSight database.

5. On the existing EdgeSight Web Server machine, locate the EdgeSight.cfg file, which is located in the \Program Files\Citrix\System Monitoring\Server\EdgeSight 4.0 folder by default. You must edit the SQL connection string used by EdgeSight. To do so:

a. Locate the EdgeSight.cfg file.

b. Create a copy of this file.

c. Edit the original and enter the name of the new SQL Server system. Look for the line that begins ZTECH_CONNECTION. The text to the left of Source= is the name of the new SQL Server system the database is now residing on. For example, if the new server is called MyNewSQLServer, then the line would read Source=MyNewSQLServer;

d. Save the edgesight.cfg file.

6. Restart the EdgeSight Web server system.

7. It may be necessary to use the esconfig utility post-reboot. See CTX117776 – Error: Login failed for user 'SpectUser' for more information.

Procedure for Moving the EdgeSight Server

1. Backup the existing EdgeSight database and restore it to the new SQL location using steps 1 through 4 above.

2. Install the EdgeSight server. During the installation Wizard, it requests you to create a new or to use an existing EdgeSight database. Choose an existing database and select the newly restored one.

3. Proceed through the installation.

4. It may be necessary to use the esconfig utility post-installation. See CTX117776 – Error: Login failed for user 'SpectUser' for more information.

Note the following conditions:

• The new SQL Server system should be running the same version of SQL Server as the old SQL Server system. The versions of SQL Server should match exactly on both machines.

• This process only describes how to move the EdgeSight database. It does NOT describe how to move the Microsoft SQL Reporting Services databases (ReportServer, ReportServerTempDB). You are not required to move these. However, if you want to move them, Citrix recommends completely uninstalling/reinstalling Reporting Services.
