Readme for Presentation Server Client for Macintosh, Version 7.00.411

Date December, 2006
Language English (US)
Readme Version 1.0

Issues Resolved in This Version

The following issues with previous releases of this product were resolved in this version:

  1. Clipboard:
It was not possible to copy and paste between sessions connected to Presentation Server for UNIX, or between a session connected to Presentation Server for UNIX and applications running locally.

  2. Printing:
Printing using PCL4 and PCL5 on Mac OS X 10.4 caused the client session to stop responding.

Issues Resolved in Version 7.00.407

The following issue with previous versions of this product was resolved in version 7.00.407:

Starting the Client for Macintosh from the Web Interface using Safari

Provided you are using Mac OS X Version 10.4 or later, you can now start the client from the Web Interface when using theSafari Web browser. When you install the client, a dialog box appears towards the end of the installation process, asking your permission to modify "a system setting". To be able to start the client from the Web Interface, click Yes. The modification is then made and the dialog box does not appear again. If you do not grant permission, the dialog box appears in the client and the editor at startup time. If you do not want to make the modification and you do not want to see this dialog box again, select the Don't show this message again check box. If you change your mind at a later stage and want to make the modification, you can access the dialog box from the Editor by selecting Options > Safari Browser Compatibility....

Note that if the server you connect to is running Web Interface for MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 or 4.0, the Client for Java is automatically started when Safari is used, whether or not you make the modification described above. For instructions on how to resolve the issue in this case, see the Citrix knowledge base article CTX104367 (Using the Safari Browser with Web Interface).

Issues Resolved in Version 7.00.406

The following issues with previous releases of this product were resolved in Version 7.00.406:

  1. Clipboard:
If more than 10 data formats were available on the clipboard at one time, the client stopped responding. This problem was caused by an issue with Mac OS 10.3.x.

  2. Business Objects 5.1.5:
Business Objects 5.1.5 could not open files with names longer than 32 characters.

  3. Printing:
If you use Mac OS X 10.3 or later and your server is set up to allow UPD printing, you now have the option to use PostScript printing to take PostScript output from the server, convert it to PDF format on the client, and then send the PDF output to the local printer. The client follows this process if you select Mac Printer when printing, or if you select Mac Printer [UPD:PS]. It is faster than PCL printing, and produces better quality prints. However, if your client is running an earlier version of Mac OS, you cannot use this new printing process.

Note that if you use PostScript printing, only the File > Enable Print Preview menu option applies. Settings selected using File > Page Setup, File > Print Automatically, and File > Print With Dialog are ignored. If you use PCL printing, settings selected using File > Page Setup, File > Print Automatically, and File > Print With Dialog apply, and File > Enable Print Preview is ignored.

  4. Mac OS X 10.4:
Installing version 7.00.402 of the Client for Macintosh on Mac OS X 10.4 produced the following error message:

There were errors installing the software

  5. Permissions:
Updated the permissions on the client folder to ensure that non-administrators cannot make changes to it.

Known Issues

Each session always starts with the keypad locked whatever the preceding state

The numeric keypad is locked when a session starts, regardless of whether the NUM LOCK key is currently on or off (as indicated by the LED in the key for users of OS X 10.1 or 10.2). This applies to any session when it starts.

  • For users of OS X 10.3: If your keypad is unlocked when you start a session, you must press NUM LOCK after starting a session to return to the unlocked state.
  • For users of OS X 10.1 or 10.2: If your keypad is unlocked when you start a session, you must press NUM LOCK twice after starting a session to return to the unlocked state.

If you have more than one session running simultaneously, pressing NUM LOCK changes the keypad state only for the session that is currently in use. Therefore sessions might have different keypad states irrespective of whether you have pressed the NUM LOCK key.

  • If the keypad is locked in one session, and you go to a second session and unlock it, when you return to the first session the keypad will still be locked. Press NUM LOCK once to unlock the keypad. The same applies if you unlock the keypad when outside any ICA session.
  • If the keypad is unlocked in one session, and you go to a second session and lock it, when you return to the first session the keypad will be unlocked. Press NUM LOCK to lock the keypad. The same applies if you lock the keypad when outside any ICA session.

Having a smart card reader attached can cause client drive mapping and COM port mapping to fail

If a smart card reader is attached to your device then client drive mapping can fail to initialize and you will be unable to access the drives within a session. This can be the case even if no card is in the reader. The problem affects clients that have preconfigured logon credentials and connect to machines running MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 or MetaFrame XP.

Workarounds:

  • Don't save your logon details as User Specified Credentials in a connection file. This forces you to enter your credentials manually every time you try to access a published application or remote desktop.
  • Remove the smart card reader from the client device.
  • Edit the Modules configuration file in the Citrix ICA Client folder, and remove Smartcard from the VirtualDriver entry.
