Error: An attempt has been made to use a delivery extension that is not registered for this report server. ... When Creating a New Subscription

Document ID: CTX111822   /   Created On: Feb 2, 2007   /   Updated On: Nov 12, 2008
Average Rating: 2

Symptoms

When trying to create a subscription for a report in the EdgeSight server console, you receive the following error message after clicking OK – Create Subscription:

β€œAn error occurred creating the subscription: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: An attempt has been made to use a delivery extension that is not registered for this report server. …”

Cause

This generally happens as a result of an incomplete Reporting Services 2005 configuration. Log on to the server machine, open the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, and select Email Settings from the left menu. Refer to the following screen shot:

Note: In the screen shot above, both the Sender Address and SMTP Server fields are blank.

Resolution

1. Populate the Sender Address and SMTP Server fields. EdgeSight requires a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server so it knows how the subscription email is delivered. The Sender Address is the address that the subscription email shows as the address of origin.

Note: The Sender Address must be a valid, recognized e-mail address.

2. Click the Apply button at the bottom of the page. You should see a green checkmark next to Email Settings on the left menu. Refer to the following screen shot:

3. The green checkmark indicates that the e-mail settings have been updated correctly. Close the Reporting Services Configuration Manager.
