PDBFinder Deluxe Pro Version 3.6

Created Date: 06/13/2005

Updated Date: 02/20/2008

Description

During dump analysis it is sometimes necessary to find rare program database (PDB) or debug (DBG) files (symbols) or determine a hotfix corresponding to a given module name and date. The PDBFinder Deluxe Pro utility simplifies this task.

Installing PDBFinder Deluxe Pro

Download the executable files (PDBFinder.exe for 32-bit and PDBFinder64.exe for 64-bit platforms) and run the file that corresponds to your platform from a command prompt.

How to use PDBFinder Deluxe Pro

The utility has the following interface:

1. Specify the folder(s) to search for PDB file locations under Search the following folders:

You can add your own locations or remove others. Click the Add button to add the location after typing or browsing to it.

2. Click the Build button to build the database.

This database is saved when the utility exits and is read again when you start the utility, so you do not need to rebuild the database again.

3. The following progress bar is seen the next time you run the utility:

Folders are saved under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Citrix\PdbFinder\Folders.

The database is saved inside a subfolder (named according to your user name) that is created in the same directory where you put the utility.

4. The next time you need to look for a location, use the Find button:

5. You can increase the date interval (using the +/- days buttons) for the search function. Choosing the operating system or language is not available in this public version.

Another advanced example:

If WinDbg.exe cannot load PDB files due to missing control information in the dump, you can force it to load from specific cached locations like c:\websymbols (if you use Microsoft Symbol Server) – there is a chance that PDB files are already downloaded and cached from previous WinDbg.exe sessions.

The utility shows where to get PDB files:

New in version 3.6: Added an additional filter (refer to the screen shot below).
