After Installing a New 6.1 NetScaler System and Configuring the Basic Settings, Including a Basic Load Balancing Virtual IP Address and Services, All the Services Remain Down

Symptoms

After installing a new 6.1 NetScaler system and configuring the basic settings, including a basic Load Balancing virtual IP address (VIP) and services, all the services remain down.

Cause

In NetScaler version 6.1, the mapped IP address (MIP) is not prompted for by default during the initial configuration script, but depending on the modes enabled, may be required for health checks to be performed. Without successful health checks against configured services, the services are not marked UP and requests are not forwarded to the servers.

A second potential issue is the disabling of the Use Subnet IP mode (USNIP). If it is not enabled, then the configured Subnet IP addresses are not used to perform health checks or forward traffic to servers.

Resolution

The following two configuration changes should resolve this issue if there are no other problems:

  1. Turn on USNIP mode using the following command:
    enable ns mode usnip
  1. Add a mapped IP address using the following command:
add ns ip <ip> <netmask> -type MIP
