Symptoms
Users receive the following error message when trying to define credentials for the Web Interface for SharePoint Web Part (gold key icon):
"Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.”
Cause
The user has not created a main portal site through the Microsoft SharePoint server.
Resolution
Create a main portal site for the Microsoft Office SharePoint portal server. Refer to the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server Administrator’s Guide.
