Supporting Microsoft Clustering for the Citrix License Server shipping with Access Suite 4.0

Document ID: CTX107765   /   Created On: Oct 12, 2005   /   Updated On: Dec 26, 2005

Symptoms

When installing Citrix Access Suite License Server 4.0 on a Windows 2003 Cluster, the installation seems successful and CtxLSClustRes.dll has been registered successfully as cluster resource type. However, CitrixLicensing, Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), W3SVC (IIS), and the License Management Console (LMC) aren’t registered as cluster resources.

Cause

The exact root cause is undetermined at this time.

The symptoms remain even if IIS and the Citrix Licensing Server have been uninstalled and reinstalled.

Resolution

Follow these steps to manually create the Cluster Resources for Citrix Licensing Server and License Management Console:

  1. Uninstall and reinstall IIS on both cluster nodes.
  2. Install Citrix Access Suite License Server 4.0
  3. Ensure CtxLSClustRes.dll is registered successfully as Cluster Resource Type ctxlsclustres.

  1. Click File > New > Resource to create a new cluster resource. There are four resources that need to be created.

  1. Create the first cluster resource CitrixLicensing and select ctxlsclustres as the resource type. Select both nodes as possible owner and select Cluster Name as dependency.

  1. Create the second cluster resource WMI and select Generic Service as the resource type. Select both nodes as possible owner and select CitrixLicensing and Cluster Name as dependency. Enter Citrix_GTLicensingProv as Service name and select Use Network Name for computer name. Leave Registry Replication blank and click Finish.

  1. Create the third cluster resource W3SVC and select Generic Service as the resource type. Select both nodes as possible owner and select CitrixLicensing and Cluster Name as dependency. Enter W3SVC as Service name and select Use Network Name for computer name. Leave Registry Replication blank and click Finish.

  1. Create the fourth and last cluster resource LMC and select Generic Service as the resource type. Select both nodes as possible owner and select Cluster Name and W3SVC as dependency. Enter CTXLMC as Service name and select Use Network Name for computer name. Leave Registry Replication blank and click Finish.

  1. Bring all the newly created cluster resources online.
  2. Ensure CTX107213 – Unable to access the License Management Console for Access Suite 4.0 in a clustered environment is followed to correct the access issue for License Management Console 4.0 on clustered environment.
  3. Browse to http://<ClusterName>/lmc/index.jsp which is the URL of the clustered License Management Console, go to Configuration, and click Update license data to update license file information. Also, ensure the License Server name shown is the cluster name, not the individual cluster node name.
  4. Test “Cluster Node Failover” and ensure there are no issues with Citrix license check-in and check-out.
