Symptoms
Applications that call IExplore, IE, fail to load.
Cause
Certain applications require Microsoft iExplore.exe in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer.
When accessing the application through an ICA connection, the call is made to Citrix iExplore.exe in C:\Program Files\Citrix\System32.
Reproduction
Open a command window and type iexplore.exe, nothing happens.
Browse to Program Files\Internet Explorer and type iexplore.exe, IE window opens.
From a non Citrix server:
Open a command window and type iexplore.exe, IE window opens.
In the registry of a Citrix server, browse to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\open\command or HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\opennew\command.
The value is "C:\Program Files\Citrix\system32\iexplore.exe" %1.
In the registry of a non Citrix server, the value is "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" –nohome.
This information is the same for:
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\command
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\shell\open\command
The FTABackup keys all have the same information.
Everything functions if you change the information on a Citrix server to:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" –nohome
Resolution
Caution! This fix requires you to edit the registry. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it.
