Symptoms
A slower system response is observed after Microsoft Office 97 is installed into an isolation environment.
Cause
This occurs because Findfast.exe, an indexing process, causes the system to slow down significantly.
The Find Fast Indexer is installed on your computer when you install Microsoft Office 97. Find Fast builds an index to speed up finding documents from the Open dialog box in Microsoft Office programs.
A shortcut called Microsoft Find Fast is automatically added to the StartUp group. This allows Find Fast to run whenever you start the computer. After Find Fast is started, it automatically builds indexes and updates them in the background. Findfast.exe indexes your Office files on your fixed drives for full-text content searching. CPU usage is increased because Find Fast frequently polls the hard drive's file structure to find changes and implement them.
Resolution
Citrix recommends that you do not install Find Fast as part of the Microsoft Office installation. To do this select Custom Install and disable Find Fast (available as an option under Office tools).
It is not necessary to delete the program shortcut for Findfast.exe located in the Programs/Startup folder. This folder is already virtualized and the system does not register the shortcut during startup. It is only necessary to end the Findfast.exe process after installation; no further action is required.
