Failure to Create Printer Monitors or Drivers When an Application is Installed into an Isolation Environment

Document ID: CTX106623   /   Created On: May 18, 2005   /   Updated On: Feb 14, 2008

Symptoms

Document image drivers fail to create printer monitors or drivers when an application is installed into an isolation environment.

Cause

Printer driver and monitor dynamic-link libraries (DLLs) must register themselves using the Print Spooler service. When you install an application into an isolation environment, these DLLs and their related registry configuration information are isolated during installation.

This issue occurs because the Print Spooler service, which is part of the operating system, is not isolated and is thus unable to find the appropriate DLLs or configuration information required to register these components.

Resolution

Citrix recommends installing all printer drivers and monitors outside the isolation environment, that is, directly on the base operating system.

More Information

Document image drivers are drivers like (but not limited to) the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer, the Adobe PDF Printer, fax drivers or any other driver where an application generates a document.
