Access Gateway Client Requires a Default Gateway

Document ID: CTX106389   /   Created On: May 18, 2005   /   Updated On: Feb 19, 2008
Average Rating: not yet rated

Symptoms

The Citrix Access Gateway client requires a default gateway defined on the system to which it is installed before it can proxy traffic to the remote Citrix Access Gateway appliance.

Cause

This is expected behavior. Windows operating systems will not send data to the network adapters for remote networks if a default gateway is not defined. Because the Citrix Access Gateway client captures all the network traffic at the driver level instead of at the network level, the only data that the client would proxy is traffic that is able to reach the network driver level. Therefore, a default gateway is necessary to proxy traffic to the remote network.

Resolution

Define a default gateway on the system that the Access Gateway client is installed.

The default gateway IP address must be able to respond to ICMP ping requests from the system where the Access Gateway client is installed.
