DSView

Created Date: 2/22/2005

Updated Date: 5/21/2008

Description

DSView can be used when you need to look at the value or find a specific record in the data store. DSView works by capturing the data from the Binary Large Object (BLOB) and placing it in an order that can be interpreted.

Prerequisites

For DSView version 4.5.1.0:

  • Citrix Presentation Server 4.5

For DSView version 2.4.27176.0:

  • MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000
  • MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft Windows 2003
  • MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000
  • MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 for Microsoft Windows 2003
  • Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000
  • Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 for Microsoft Windows 2003

This utility needs to run from a server that has a direct connection to the data store. For Access data stores, this would be the server where the data store is located.

This file is also located on the Presentation Server installation CD-ROM.

For example:

Z:\Support\debug\W2K3

Installing DSView

To install this utility, copy the dsview.exe file and the resource\en\DSViewUI.dll file to the server that has a direct connection to the data store.

CTX108887 – Error: The specified module could not be found: DSViewUI.dll

How to Use DSView

Once the tool is open you will see four tabs across the top: Directory, LHC, ContextIds, and UIDs:

  • Directory - This tab displays the records in your data store. In this control you will see three objects.
    • IMASchema - The IMASchema object contains default setting and base definitions for every object in the farm. For example, when you publish a new application, this new application will follow the "CAppObjectObjectClass4" schema when its record is created in the data store. Because a published application has a settings object, this new settings object will follow the "CAppSettingsObjectObjectClass" schema.
    • securetable - The securetable object has all security settings for your farm. Here you will find the permissions that will be applied to all Citrix administrators and farm users.
    • ServerNeighborhoods - This object is where most of the data is. Here you will be able to find all objects pertaining to your farm, the farm object itself, printers that were added, all of your servers, published applications, and more. For example, the MFServers node will show you all the servers that are in your farm.
  • LHC - This tab displays the records in the local host cache from the server where the tool is running. Outside of that it has the same functionality as the Directory tab. The LHC tab displays only the necessary data needed for IMA to run because the local host cache is not a full copy of the data store.
  • ContextIds - To view information on this tab, go to File > Refresh or press the F5 key. This tab shows you the context IDs for the primary base records in the data store as well as their locations.
  • UIDs – You must also refresh to view this control's data. Once populated, you will be able to see farm-specific objects (for example: Servers, published applications, load evaluators, file type associations, and so on), their unique identifiers, and their locations in the Directory tab. This tab is useful if you need to find a specific object but don't know its location within the Directory tab.

Uninstalling DSView

To uninstall this utility, delete the dsview.exe file from the server where you copied it.

I have found the DLL files required but why hard code the location in the executable ??? Feb 16, 2006 by gdown007
I found it... You can find the necessary files in the 'Support\debug\W2K3' folder on the installation CD. The file itself is in 'resource\en' under the originating folder. DSVIEW will look to that location for the DLL. Feb 15, 2006 by ejthies1
Same here. I get a Fatal Error saying; "The specified module could not be found. DSView_W2K3\resource\en\dsviewUI.dll". Feb 11, 2006 by bjosv3
When attempting to run I receive a message 'the specified module could not be found' - 'dsviewUI.dll'. The file does not appear to exist in the xip. Feb 7, 2006 by ejthies1
