Default Drive Mapping Behavior of the ICA Client for Java 8.x and 9.x

Document ID: CTX105767   /   Created On: Apr 11, 2005   /   Updated On: Jul 30, 2008
Average Rating: 1

Symptoms

Upon first use, logging on to a MetaFrame Presentation Server while using the ICA Client for Java results in only one client drive mapping. Drive H in the ICA session is mapped to the users’ home folder of the client operating system.

Cause

This behavior is by design. The user’s home directory is automatically mapped to drive H at the start of a session. This behavior is documented in CTX103747 - Administrator's Guide - Client for Java - Version 8.x - English for version 8.x and CTX106470 - Client for Java Administrator's Guide - Version 9.x for version 9.x.

When drive mapping is configured, the client attempts to use it for all connections. If the server does not support drive mapping, or if the Java environment is configured not to allow access to local drives, drive mapping is not available.

CTX238200 - Troubleshooting Various Client Drive Mapping Issues.

Drive mapping can only be configured through the ICA Settings dialog box. You cannot configure client drive mapping on an HTML page or through the Web Interface because it is a violation of the client’s security.

By default, the H drive in the ICA session will map as follows:

Sun Java Plugin 1.3.x and 1.4.x (Win32):
%USERPROFILE%\Citrix

Microsoft VM (Win32):
This feature is not available when using the Microsoft JVM.

Netscape 6.x and later, Mozilla 1.x (Win32):
%USERPROFILE%\Citrix

Netscape 6.x and later, Mozilla 1.x (UNIX and Linux):
$HOME/.citrix

Safari 1.x (Mac OS X):
<User's home directory>/.citrix

Resolution

See the “Copying Client Drive Mapping Configuration” section of the CTX103747 - Administrator's Guide - Client for Java - Version 8.x - English for version 8.x and CTX106470 - Client for Java Administrator's Guide - Version 9.x for version 9 for more information.
