For information about new features and system requirements, see the MetaFrame Access Suite Licensing Guide and the License Management Console online help.

Finding Licensing Documentation

Licensing documentation is available from the \Documentation folder on all product CD-ROMs. For MetaFrame Presentation Server, licensing documentation is also available from the Document Center.

To view, search, and print the PDF documentation, you need Adobe Reader (supported versions: Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 with Search through Adobe Reader 7.0). You can download Adobe Reader for free from the Adobe Systems Web site. Documentation is available on the Citrix Knowledge Center Web site (select Product Documentation). Updates to Citrix technical manuals are posted on the Web site.

For MetaFrame Presentation Server, licensing documentation is also available from the Document Center, which is included on the MetaFrame Presentation CD-ROM. Access the center on the server on which MetaFrame Presentation Server is installed by choosing the Citrix programs group from the Start menu > Programs > Citrix > MetaFrame Presentation Server > Documentation and then double-click document_center.pdf.

Getting Support

The following is a list of known issues in this release. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING THE PRODUCT.

Installation Issues

Other Known Issues

Installation Issues

Important: Before you install this product, make sure you consult the Pre-Installation Update Bulletin. The bulletin offers late-breaking information and links to critical updates to server operating systems and to Citrix installation files. Download and install the updates because you may not be able to properly install this product otherwise.

General Installation Issues

    • When installing MetaFrame Access Suite licensing on a Windows operating system that is running in Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, or Korean, do not use multi-byte characters in path names. [#73148]

    • If you are running an English version of a Windows operating system with a Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, or Korean supplemental language pack installed, you cannot log on to the License Management Console using a user name with multi-byte characters. [#82831]

    • To install MetaFrame Access Suite licensing using Active Directory, you must apply the ActiveDirectoryLicensingInstallSupport.mst transform file. [#76996]

    • If you open the License Management Console from your product's setup program and your browser settings do not allow automatic authentication, you are prompted to enter credentials for the computer on which the License Management Console is running. To resolve this issue, you can either add the license server to your browser’s list of safe intranet sites or enter fully qualified domain credentials.

    • Double-clicking on the CTX_licensing.msi in the German, French, Spanish, and Japanese Server-CD folders runs the licensing setup in English. To access the licensing setup program in one of these languages, access it from Autorun or the command line specific to the language. [#113417]

    • Do not install the license server or License Management Console on a 64-bit server. [#114092]

Unattended Installation or Upgrade

    • When you perform an unattended installation of or upgrade to MetaFrame Presentation Server, you must manually set the license server properties for that server from the Presentation Server Console. To do this:

      1. Perform the unattended installation or upgrade.
      2. In the Presentation Server Console, select the License Server properties page for the server you are installing or upgrading, and specify the name and port number of the license server.
If you want the server to use the farm-wide license server properties, select the "Use farm settings for license server access" check box and make sure that the License Server properties for the server farm are correctly configured. [#72041]

    • Before you perform an unattended installation of MetaFrame Presentation Server, MetaFrame Access Suite licensing, or of the Management Console for MetaFrame Presentation Server, you must install or upgrade to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 1.4.2_06. To install the JRE from the command line, type:

    "<path to CD-ROM>\Support\JRE1.4.2\j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p.exe" -s -a -s -SMS

[#83379]

Identifying the License Server during MetaFrame Presentation Server Setup

When specifying the license server during MetaFrame Presentation Server Setup, if you clear the "Use default port" check box, you must enter 27000 in the License server port text box. [#81908]

MetaFrame Access Suite Licensing

Specifying Fully Qualified Domain Names in the Options File

When referencing a server in the options file using a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), note that the license server truncates FQDN names to 32 characters and may not distinguish between similar FQDN names. The workaround is to specify the truncated FQDN name in a HOST_GROUP in the options file. You can discover how the license server is truncating an FQDN name by checking the debug log on the license server. [#111556]

Microsoft Clustering for MetaFrame Access Suite License Server

If any of the licensing services (including the CitrixLicensing, the License Management Console for Citrix Licensing, or the Citrix Licensing WMI services) fail to start, the cluster detects that licensing is offline and attempts to restart the service three times (by default). If these attempts are unsuccessful, fail-over to the next node is initiated and the cluster attempts to start the services on the second node. If the attempts fail on the second server, the process may enter into an infinite loop. In this case, the computers running MetaFrame Presentation Server fall into the grace period. During the grace period, client connections are not affected.

License Management Console

Logon Dialog Does not Appear in the License Management Console

    • The License Management Console does not display the logon dialog box when it is run in Netscape 7.0. Netscape 7.0 is not supported for use with the License Management Console. Use Netscape 7.1 instead. [#96482]

    • When running the License Management Console in Netscape 7.1 in an Apache Web server environment, users cannot log on remotely when running Windows 95, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Edition. The logon dialog box does not appear because these operating systems are not supported. [#109734]

Error When Adding Users to the License Management Console

Do not use the ampersand (&), apostrophe ('), or quotation marks (") when adding user names to the License Management Console. If you add a user name that contains any of these characters, remove the line with the characters from the tomcat-users.xml file. You cannot add additional users or authenticate to the License Management Console until you remove this line. [#113131]

License Management Console Reports

    • When generating reports, do not close the License Management Console without clicking the Cancel button. If you do not click Cancel, reports continue running. To stop reports from generating after closing the License Management Console, restart the License Management Console for Citrix Licensing service. [#86689]

    • Generating Product reports with the Percent Installed Licenses data type causes the reporting engine to lock up. The License Management Console continues operating after the reporting engine locks up. However, you must restart the License Management Console for Citrix Licensing service before you can generate any further reports. [#107210]

MetaFrame Presentation Server Licensing-Specific Issues

Microsoft Remote Desktop Connections Consume Licenses

A connection made from Microsoft Remote Desktop or any other supported client consumes one MetaFrame Presentation Server concurrent user (CCU) license. In addition, if a user makes two connections (one using ICA and one Remote Desktop session) to a server running MetaFrame Presentation Server, two concurrent user licenses are consumed. For more information, see Citrix Knowledge Base article CTX104605 at knowledgebase.citrix.com.

MetaFrame Password Manager Licensing-Specific Issues

License Server Fails to Release Licenses upon Shutdown

The license server does not release concurrent user licenses for MetaFrame Password Manager if the licenses were checked in within two minutes before the license server is shut down. For up to 90 minutes after restarting the license server, agents cannot check out the affected licenses unless the agents are running on one of the client devices that originally checked out those licenses. After the license server runs for 90 minutes, all licenses function normally. [#119758]

Entering License Server Names in MetaFrame Password Manager

When specifying the license server name for a MetaFrame Password Manager agent, Citrix recommends entering only ASCII characters or an IP address, if using non-ASCII characters. Entering non-ASCII characters can prevent disconnected mode periods and the grace period from being available. [#116882]
