Summary

Citrix supports the use of Microsoft’s External Connector, Terminal Server External Connector, Internet Connector, and Terminal Services Internet Connector licenses in conjunction with Citrix products when the Microsoft licenses are appropriately utilized according to Microsoft’s requirements. Citrix support for these licenses is limited by the functionality provided by these licenses.

Background

While Citrix supports the use of the above mentioned Microsoft licenses, it is important to understand how these licenses function and to only use these licenses in a manner compliant with Microsoft requirements. Refer to the following Microsoft articles or contact Microsoft directly for information regarding the purchase, use, and functionality of these licenses.

For Windows 2000 Server Internet Connector and Windows 2000 Terminal Services Internet Connector License:

Additional Considerations

Once in Internet Connector or External Connector licensing mode, all connections to that terminal server are automatically logged on as the local account “TSInternetUser.” Users will not be prompted for a user name or password. This cannot be overridden unless the Internet Connector or External Connector mode licensing is disabled. When connections are made using the “TSInternetUser” account, all users will share printer drivers and mapping back to the client printers could be a concern. Profile issues may also be of concern. For an example of an issue you may encounter when using Internet Connector or External Connector licenses to connect to a Citrix Presentation Server, refer to the following document:

You cannot mix and match both TS CALs and the Internet Connector or External Connector mode licenses on the same license server.

TSInternetUser Account and Security

With all connections using one account, a single user point of entry opens up points of attack. One may consider the option of third party products to lock down a Terminal Service systems such as:
