Summary
This article explains the Share Load Information option in MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0.
Status
The responsibilities of the data collector include keeping track of server loads.
Before MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0, every load change was sent to every data collector in the farm.
During resolution, every data collector knew the server load of each server in the farm and could perform the resolution.
Presentation Server 3.0 changes the default data collector behaviour of information sharing across zones.
Each data collector now monitors only its zone’s load.
If Zone Preference is defined for the incoming application resolution request, the Load Manager subsystem forwards the request to the data collector for the set zone.
The data collector for that zone finds the target server with the least load. If none is found in the primary zone, the same process occurs in the backup zones.
If no zone preference and failover rule is defined, resolution time is expected to increase because all the data collectors in the farm are queried for the least loaded server.
If Share information across zones is selected (pre-MetaFrame Presentation Server zone behaviour), session resolution time decreases and zone traffic across WANs increases because server load level is exchanged among all data collectors across all zones.
