Summary
Clients consume multiple licenses from the Citrix License server.
Troubleshooting
If clients or servers consume multiple licenses, verify the following:
• If different versions of Presentation Server are in the same farm for example, Presentation Server 4.5 Hotfix Rollup Pack 1 and previous versions of Presentation Server, the format that is used to check out licenses differs between Presentation Server 4.5 Hotfix Rollup Pack 1 and previous versions. Because of this difference, if a user is load balanced to two different versions they will consume two licenses. To resolve this issue if the version is Presentation Server 4.5, then update all servers in the farm to Hotfix Rollup Pack 1 or above. If the servers in the farm are mixed with Presentation Server 4.5 Hotfix Rollup Pack 1 and Presentation Server 4.0, then update all Presentation Server 4.0 servers to Hotfix Rollup Pack 3 with post Hotfix Rollup Pack hotfix PSE400R03W2K3058.
• Check to make sure all servers in a farm pointing to the same license server are using the same Presentation Server edition. Servers running different editions of Presentation Server, that is, Advanced, Standard, Enterprise, or Platinum, cannot share licenses. You can keep license files for different editions on the same license server but a user connecting to each edition will take two licenses. This can occur if the farm is utilizing the Load Balancing feature of Presentation Server and the users sessions are directed to different servers.
• Check to make sure that the computer running Presentation Server was not shut down improperly. An improper shutdown may not allow licenses to be checked in. Therefore, the license may remain in a hung state on the license server and the computer running Presentation Server may consume multiple startup licenses.
