Configuration of the Citrix EPOC ICA Client

16th June 2000

General Information

The “Message Suite” package must be installed on Psion Series 5 and earlier devices prior to installing the Citrix ICA Client. The relevant TCP/IP protocol suite comes as standard on the netBook, Revo, and Series 5MX, so installation of “Message Suite” is not required on these systems.

The Psion netBook has a PCMCIA slot that can accommodate networking cards. However, there are currently no final card drivers available for EPOC at the time of this ICA Client release. In future, it should be possible to use a PCMCIA card in a Psion netBook for network connections. However, this mode of operation has not been certified at the time of writing.

To configure the Psion EPOC devices for ICA connections, carry out the following procedures.

On the Windows NT 4.0 PC

1. Add a new user with administrative and dial-in rights, no password and with a suitable name such as “netbook” or similar.

2. Add RAS to the workstation through Network Computer with the following properties:

    • Connection should be a Serial PC-PC connection through COM1 (or 2 if appropriate).

    • Port should be configured for both sending and receiving data.

    • Only TCP/IP protocols should be clicked and the “authentication including clear text” box should be ticked.

    • RAS should be set to provide an IP address by DHCP. If DHCP is not enabled on the network, the RAS should be configured to provide a static IP address to the Psion device.

3. Prior to starting the ICA client connection, PsiWin should be closed down if it is running.

4. The latest service pack should be re-applied after configuring RAS.

5. When establishing an ICA session, viewing the COM port status via Remote Access Admin (Administrative tools) is useful for checking whether there is data movement through the port.

On the Psion device

After installing the ICA Client Manager, a number of changes need to be made to the Internet/Modem settings on the Psion Control Panel.

1. Internet Service Settings

Click “New”.

Choose “Based upon ‘Standard Settings’”, then click OK.

[Service] Choose name such as “RAS”, connection type needs to be “Direct”

[Account] Click off “Manual Login” and insert the user name created as a new account for the PC.

[Addresses] Both “Get IP address…” and “Get DNS address…”

[Login] Click “Use login script” and accept the default settings.

[Advanced] Only click “Allow plain text authentification.”

1. Modem Settings

Select new and enter a name, such as “Direct cable connection”.

[Modem] Speed should be set to maximum at 115200 baud. Connect via “Serial” with Fax class as “Auto”

[Options] Loudspeaker should be set to “Never”, volume to “Quiet” and Pause time to “3” seconds.

[Initialisation] All strings should be empty.

[Advanced] Set “Flow control” to “None”, uncheck “Terminal detect” and “Carrier Detect” and select “Fixed Line” for the Modem type.

Before starting the ICA Manager, select <Tools> the <Remote Link> from the main page. Make sure it is set to “OFF”.

Before connections can be made to MetaFrame servers, please note that global settings need to be configured. These can be found in the ICA Manager in “Tools” -> “Preferences”. In particular, using the “Ping” command from the command line on a Windows device is useful in finding the IP address of a particular MetaFrame server.
