Summary

This article describes how to create a DOS client or Winterm printer for all users.

Procedure

Follow the steps below.

1. Log on from the ICA Client with a local printer.

2. In the ICA session, open the Printers folder and make sure the printer was auto-created. If not, create it manually by running the Add Printer wizard, selecting network printer, and choosing the appropriate client device from Client Network.

3. Open the Printer Properties box for the printer in question.

4. Remove the auto-created printer comment so that the print queue is not deleted at logoff.

5. From the Security tab, add permissions for all users and groups who you want to be able to see/manipulate the client printer.

NOTE: You must have Administrator privileges to accomplish this.

- OR -

Share the printer.

6. Save the printer settings and close the Properties box.

- OR -

Have a login script, net use lpt1: \\citrixservername\share, for all other users or have each user create this networked printer with the Add Printer wizard.

You have created a permanent (server-side) print queue targeting a specific client printer that is visible to other users.

    • Unless there is an active ICA session from the client printer in question, spooled jobs are queued until the connection is established.

    • The Winterm must be configured to connect to one server only because this print queue will not work if the session is load balanced.

    • Sending many simultaneous print jobs to this client printer may cause performance issues.
